Housed in an old canning building overlooking the Newport harbor, the Cannery is a historical landmark reminiscent of the days when Newport harbor became a hub of the fishing industry. Along with an extensive seafood selection, the menu features traditional steaks and chops, along with a sushi and raw bar. The Cannery has five different dining areas which offer stunning views, including a outdoor patio and an Asian dining room with a full Japanese menu.
Expensive, bad food, glacial service. This place is near my work. It's favorite to bring clients because the deck over Newport Bay is nice. I hate it. I've been here now 5 times. Each time, the food has been indifferent at best. I love fish. I'm comfortable with my inevitable fate of death by mercury poisoning because I eat so much fish. This place makes bad fish. On top of that, the service is brutally slow. I've had my lunches here easily run to two hours. Unfortunately, I work for a living, so I can't do that. Frankly, with Blue Water Grill, Joe's Crab Shack, and Billy's at the Beach within spitting distance, I can't see why anyone ever goes here.
